Color Inspiration Week 1: My Living Room

living room

I recently moved into a new apartment, which means that I've been spending a whole lot of time organizing and decorating! My poor boyfriend/roommate is probably pretty sick of me asking: "So what do you think we should do with this wall?" (sorry, Grayson!).

As a recent college grad, my new apartment is a mix of things I already owned, furniture graciously donated by friends and family, a few new finds, and of course - some handmade decor. I am so pleased with how it all came together, which is why I chose this to be my very first color inspiration post! Enjoy the photos, Pantone color palettes, & yarn connections below, as well as a sneak peak of a new item coming soon to the shop.

Photos & background

This magazine rack was gifted from my parents & features a vibrant assortment of Grayson & I's favorite magazines. I placed the money tree I've nurtured for 2 years on the TV stand (next to the most adorable bear tea light holder I picked up from CB2 - I'm obsessed with it!) to give a splash of color.

I gave this simple terra cotta pot an upgrade by mixing white, pearly blue, & rose gold paint & then applying sparsely with a wide brush to leave it a bit streaky. I think it softened it up & it works great with our birch KALLAX  unit & white walls.

Psst - I made this! It's so simple & a great way to show off gorgeous hand dyed fingering weight yarn. Pattern & product coming July 10!

A view of our TV stand/media console composed of various parts of the KALLAX series from IKEA. We placed together a few different storage units to make an L, and the cubes are filled with various books, knitting projects, electronics, & more. My favorite part is the aqua box - I think it livens everything up!

I love using my bright, cheery mugs in this space - they work as excellent color accents!

I've always wanted to own one of these knit poufs from CB2 - & now I finally do! We went with the light grey so that it doesn't distract from statement pillows like this awesome face one (unfortunately I have no idea where that pillow is from - it's several years old!).

Pantone color palettes

Brought to you by the Pantone Design Studio (which you can download on the app store) - this truly life changing app can pull color schemes from photos & I'm in love.

Yarn connections

Neutrals + color pops are basically a match made in fingering weight yarn heaven. A few of my favorite dyers include Stitch Together Studio (whose yarn I used to make that pillow) from (basically) my hometown in Marion, Iowa, Hedgehog Fibers form Cork, Ireland, Madelinetosh from Forth Worth, Texas, & Woolberry Fiber Co. from up in Wisconsin. I've found that these yarn colorways don't always stay in circulation for steady amounts of time, but I've posted a few of my favorites below just to ogle at. Click any of the links above to see available yarn from any of these amazing dyers!
